Litany of St. Joseph in Song: A Monumental Concert Event

Calgary, AB (February 7, 2025) – Join choirs from across the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary for an evening of sacred music culminating in debuting a newly commissioned “Litany of St. Joseph in Song.” This monumental concert on Monday, March 17, at the Jack Singer Concert Hall will be an unforgettable experience.

The concert will feature diverse choirs, including the Vietnamese church choir from St. Vincent Liem, a Nigerian choir, the French choir from Sainte-Famille Church, the St. Francis Xavier chaplaincy choir, and the Bishop McNally High School choir. Soloist Michelle Todd, who has performed at prestigious venues such as Royal Albert Hall, will grace the stage, adding to the evening’s brilliance.

The event’s centerpiece is the “Litany of St. Joseph in Song,” a work commissioned several years ago and now being unveiled during the Catholic Jubilee Year. The piece, set to a full orchestral arrangement with choir and soloists, will be sung in Latin, connecting the audience to the rich tradition of the Catholic Church.

“We wanted to create something beautiful because that’s what attracts people to God,” says Sean Lynn, the driving force behind the concert. “It’s like when you commission a painting – the full scope of beauty isn’t revealed until those final strokes. We’re hoping that’s what takes place here with the Litany of St. Joseph.”

This concert is a celebration of St. Joseph, patron of Canada, of ministry to men in North America, and of the universal Church. It also serves as a unifying event, bringing together Calgary’s diverse Catholic community in faith and music.

Lynn emphasizes the event’s significance, noting the connections to St. Joseph, St. André Bessette, the late Bishop Henry (whose installation as Bishop of Calgary was on the Feast of St. Joseph), and the late Denis Grady, who used music to reach souls. Lynn invites everyone to attend, emphasizing the importance of filling the Jack Singer Concert Hall to celebrate this monumental event. The performance will be recorded in order to share the spectacle with the wider Church.
