Join the Mission
By Sean Lynn president of God’s squad Canada and
coach for the Catholic Men’s Leadership Alliance
“Be not afraid” many know these were the first words that St Pope John Paul II spoke when he was introduced to the world as our newly elected Pontiff. Did you know that a variation of that phrase appears 100 times in the old testament and 44 times in the new testament? Then why do we allow fear to stop us from doing what God calls us to do? Why are we afraid to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our coworkers, friends, and family?
I was in Montreal last weekend with leaders from across Canada who were reminded of the great commission; “Go make disciples of all nations.” Matt 28:19-20.
This was a great opportunity to be challenged on what each of the organizations is doing to fulfill that call. We talked about how we could support each other and break down barriers that stop us from working together in this common mission. The presenters challenged us to complete this mission by 2033, which is the 2000 anniversary of the death, resurrection and ascension into heaven of Our Lord Jesus Christ. See Global 20:30 PRAYER : WILL YOU JOIN US?
Father, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Come Holy Spirit.
As I returned home, I had time to reflect on what God Squad was doing and how we could improve. I reflected on some of the bold steps taken. Helping seed a men’s conference in Kelowna and starting discussions with men in Winnipeg. We purchased some high end software to support ourselves and the many other ministries we support with their events.
We are also piloting software to engage people to get involved as stewards by making opportunities more accessible.
(please sign up for God Squad future opportunities)
We are busy planning our 28th Men’s conference and the World premiere of The Litany of St Joseph in song.
I was beginning to feel the pressure of these commitments, not to mention the aging BBQ trailer needs to be upgraded in the near future.
On my return home there was so much snow I was going to take a picture to send to the Heroicmen team living in places like Texas. I noticed several birds in my tree. It reminded me of the bible verse
“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?” Matt 6:25-33
As we enter this Advent season I would like to invite those in the Calgary Diocese to join your parish advent retreat at most parishes this week Dec 3, 4th and 5th,2024 featuring Brett Powell, Bishop Scott McCaig and Mary Rose Bacani Valenti.
Let us prepare our hearts, minds, and souls for the holy season of Christmas journeying through Advent with hopeful and prayerful attitudes, anticipating the Incarnation of Our Lord.
I would also like to encourage men to join together on December 11th at 6:30 PM for a virtual event featuring Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers on How to Be a Heroic Man!
Please prayerfully consider making a donation to God Squad Canada.
Contributions allow us to move forward with our mission of making men activated disciples in their families, parishes, and communities. Any gift is appreciated, from a one time donation to monthly contributions.
Perhaps you would consider sponsoring any one of the upcoming costs such as the expense of using the concert hall, or purchasing a new trailer so we can continue to offer BBQ Outreach.
Even a small contribution goes a long way towards helping new men’s ministries to launch their programs initiated through the conferences we support.
Donations matched up to December 31, 2024!
There is a generous mission partner who will match all donations made to God Squad until Dec. 31st, 2024.
Of course, we would also appreciate your prayerful support.
“As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.”
