Riders In The Storm

Wisdom From The Road Update 10

By Dwight Whitlach, RITS

Dwight talks to us about being an Activated Disciple.

First invited to ride by Jeff Cavins over 5 years ago Dwight sees meaning in what the men of Riding In The Storm (RITS) stand for:  Bringing young men back to the Church.  Men need to be invited.

When people find out what and who we are, doors open to being prayed for, prayed over or prayed with.

Dwight’s wife makes him go on the God Squad Rides because she’s seen how it makes him a better man.  The rides are an opportunity to be an Activated Disciple, helping others into the Church and also helping him grow in his faith.

What does the Church offer?  The Faith will offer young men peace, fellowship and friends for life.

Rejoice always.
Pray without ceasing.
In all circumstances give thanks,
for this is the will of God
for you in Christ Jesus.

(1 Thes 5:16-18)

Wisdom From The Road Update 8

By Sean Lynn President of God Squad Canada

Running lights, it’s the law.  If you want to be seen, you need to have your lights on.  Our young men need to see men in action in the church. Are you being seen?  Turn on your running lights so that you can be seen at night.  You may even have to turn on your high beams in the darkness.  Be that light of Christ in the world as we were trying to do on this ride with everyone that we met.  Be involved.  You are called to do something. “Be doers of the word” (James 1:22) Whether big or small, God has a plan for you.

Wisdom From The Road Update 6

God Squad introduces you to Father Marius Sztuk, Society of the Divine Saviour (SDS) who in this installment speaks to us from Cheyenne WY.

Father speaks to us about the holiness of vacations, about how being in the midst of the world, away from your daily routine can be a way to learn how to find common ground.  Say like motorcycles, something many have people have in common.  Once common ground is found, you can rest assured that his holy priest will turn the conversation to God.

Learn how messy our lives can be and how we all have our own crosses to carry.

We have been entrusted the great gift of faith and as part of our discipleship, we moved to share it with others.  Vacations are not a vacation from God.  Au contraire.

Wisdom From The Road Update 2

Sean Lynn talks about perspective, the importance of silence and the perspective of the mountains, lake and people.

One guy in Field BC who was victim of sexual abuse in the military, asked us to pray for him.

Heading into the States we ran into 40 C heat, that’s 100 F.  And when the heat dropped down to a sweltering 30 C, after 14 hours of 40 C, that 30 C felt amazing.

These gave me new perspective. Then visiting my Uncle who lost his wife and brother recently give me a new perspective in life.

Please consider God’s perspective and that of those who you encounter.

We are hoping to gather a team to start and complete the work on a Saturday August 27, 2022.

Please consider donating your time.

Jake Khym shares words of Wisdom.

Turning off the music and being quiet allowed him to really notice the beauty around him. It’s overwhelming to  see what God has done in creation if you take the time to notice it.

Find some quiet time, get outside and slow down and just connect with the Lord. God is good and He Loves us and He has all kinds of good things for us.

We are hoping to gather a team to start and complete the work on a Saturday August 27, 2022.

Please consider donating your time.

Holy Holidays

Holy Holidays are not a time away from God but a time to spend some quiet time with God.

Take your family to new churches and in that way learn some of the history and heritage of the Church.  Take this opportunity to make it a Holy Holiday.

I encourage the men to take this time to reflect on what God is calling you to do in this next year; to what piece do you think He wants you working in.

The Church needs your help to grow the Church in Canada; with ministry to men, whether you have your own group, let’s join forces.

Watch and see the beautiful scenery Sean has the privilege to enjoy during his Holy Holiday and how on fire he is returning from the Catholic Men’s Leadership Association (CMLA)  Summit just attended.

We are hoping to gather a team of 10 and be able to start and complete the work on a Saturday.
Right now we are tentatively looking to schedule this on one of the two last weekends’ of August 2022.

I just finished working the first three days of The Calgary Stampede as a police officer and it was packed! It amazed me to see the number of serving members who take annual leave to volunteer to help out at the stampede. This event attracts 2500 volunteers to work long days to pull off the World’s Greatest Outdoor Show!

We need that volunteer spirit to bring our diocese and parishes into the vibrant church community that God wants us to have. God Squad has chosen the mission of inviting men into God’s work in Canada. To make it clear, we are not asking you to join under the God Squad banner but rather to work collaboratively with us to encourage men to be part of the fabric of the Church’s mission. We would love to hear what is happening in your parish regarding ministry to men and how we can help. Please contact admin@godsquad.ca

To this end I would like to invite the men of the Diocese of Calgary to join us in painting St Paul’s Church in Brocket on Saturday August 27th (weather permitting). This is an excellent opportunity for us to build relations with our First Nations brothers and sisters. Please consider joining us and partake of our Barbeque Outreach for some great food, fellowship and community service.

We are hoping to gather a team of 10 and be able to start and complete the work on Saturday Aug 27, 2022 (weather- permitting).

An 8:30 start will give us time to finish.
