Fr. Deacon Andrew Bennett
The Rev. Dr. Andrew Bennett is an ordained deacon in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in the Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada serving at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian-Catholic Shrine in Ottawa.
Fr. Deacon Andrew is also the Director of Faith Communities at Cardus, a non-partisan, Christian think-tank in Ottawa, and a Senior Fellow at the Washington, DC-based Religious Freedom Institute.
He previously served as Canada’s first Ambassador for Religious Freedom and Head of the Office of Religious Freedom from 2013 to 2016 in the Department of Global Affairs
Canada.
He served as Head of the Canadian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) from 2014-2016.
He is a leading commentator on religious freedom and the role of Christianity in Canada’s public square and a regular contributor to the Catholic Register under the byline “Ad Orientem”.
Fr. Dcn. Andrew holds a Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Edinburgh as well as degrees in history from McGill (M.A.) and Dalhousie (B.A. Hons.).
